Here’s How My Son and I Tried to Rebuild a Columbia Golf Cart and What We Learned
Several years ago, my son and I decided to take on a DIY project that involved rebuilding a Columbine golf cart. We thought it would be a fun challenge and a way to bond over a shared interest in mechanics and engineering. However, as we soon discovered, rebuilding a golf cart is not as easy as it seems, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience or resources. Despite some setbacks and frustrations, we learned a lot from this experience and hope to share some of our insights with you.
First of all, you may be wondering what a Columbine golf cart is. Well, it’s a type of golf cart that was produced by a company called Columbine Vehicle Systems in the 1990s. While some people still own and love these golf carts, they can be hard to maintain and repair due to their limited availability of parts and manuals.
In our case, we found a used Columbine golf cart for sale online and decided to buy it. We knew it needed some work, but we didn’t realize how much work it would require. The first challenge we faced was figuring out how to remove the body from the frame, which was rusted and welded in some places. We ended up using a reciprocating saw to cut off the body, which was messy and loud but effective. We also had to replace the batteries, the controller, the charger, the tires, and some wiring, which added up to a considerable expense.
As we worked on the golf cart, we documented our progress and challenges on YouTube, hoping to share our experiences with others who might be interested or facing similar issues. Although we received some positive feedback and encouragement from viewers, we eventually realized that we might not be able to finish the project to our satisfaction. We also had other priorities and interests that competed for our attention and resources. Therefore, we decided to sell the golf cart to someone who might have more experience and passion for this type of vehicle.
Looking back, we don’t regret attempting to rebuild the Columbine golf cart, as it taught us some valuable lessons about teamwork, problem-solving, and humility. We also enjoyed spending time together and sharing our story with others. However, we learned that sometimes it’s okay to let go of a project that no longer serves our goals or interests, and to focus on other opportunities that may arise. We hope that our experience can inspire you to pursue your own passions and learn from your own challenges, whether they involve golf carts or not.
