When a copper, CPVC, or PEX supply line bursts, stopping the flow is more urgent than choosing a fitting. This Handyman Problem Fixer video highlights quick-repair fittings, and the original description includes a product link for the fittings the creator uses.

First: isolate and contain
Locate the water main shutoff and turn off the affected supply. If water is near outlets, appliances, or electrical panels, stay clear and arrange for safe electrical isolation by a qualified person. Move valuables only when safe and use towels or containers to limit spreading water.
Identify the pipe material
Copper, CPVC, and PEX are different materials, and repair fittings must specifically be rated for the actual tube type, diameter, pressure, temperature, and application. Some push-to-connect products accept several materials, but not every fitting does. Match the manufacturer’s installation instructions and local code.
Temporary versus permanent repair
An emergency stopgap may prevent further damage while a plumber is arranged, but it should not be assumed to be a long-term code-compliant fix. A damaged section may need proper removal, end preparation, approved fittings, mechanical support, and pressure testing. Never bury a suspect connection inside a finished wall.
Prevent repeat failure
Investigate freezing, inadequate insulation, pipe movement, water hammer, high pressure, corrosion, or material deterioration. Dry affected areas promptly to reduce hidden moisture damage and inspect again after water service is restored.
